Electrical Engineering Lead

We’re a growing tech company based in the heart of Toronto.
RockMass provides digital and streamlined solutions for the mine of the future and are actively growing our engineering team. We’re looking for a Electrical Engineer specialising in PCB design to join our team this February.
You will be responsible for leading all related electrical engineering aspects for RockMass while simultaneously integrating the electrical, mechanical, and software systems into one coherent design. Major objectives include PCB schematic and layout design, hardware to software interface, power management for external components, and part management (BoMs, suppliers, etc.). As the lead electrical engineer, it is expected that you complete these tasks on an individual basis.
Experience with EAGLE CAD is an added benefit, however equivalent CAD software is acceptable. You will be working alongside our hardware and software engineering teams to bring the current prototypes to market in the next 10 months and expand the product line from that point onward.
As an Electrical Engineer with RockMass you will own all development for the electrical systems for RockMass’s products.
Within one year of working at RockMass you can expect to have accomplished:
Designed, tested, and implemented a finalized PCB for all onboard systems (processing unit, GPS, IMU, screen, camera)
Designed, tested, and implemented a power management and recharging system for the product
Identified manufacturing requirements and sources for the power management systems
Work alongside mechanical engineers to implement the electrical systems into the ruggedized casing and system
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
2-4 years of work experience focused on PCB and electrical systems design
Skills and Experience
Experience taking a PCB from idea to product
Experience in PCB schematic design, layout design and circuit verification
Superb soldering skills
Comfortable implementing standard electrical protocols (i.e. I2C, SPI, GPIO’s, etc.)
Experience with EMI mitigation
A strong understanding of electrical systems
Excellent communication skills
Nice to have
Experience designing power systems for embedded electrical systems
Project portfolio demonstrating an ability to scale electrical systems from prototype to commercial products
Familiarity with sensing instruments such as: inertial measurement unit, global positioning system, capacitive touch screen, LiDAR modules is an asset.
